Happy Tuesday, friends!
I have a little LIFE LATELY for you plus a little SHAY’S WAYS: HOW I *TRY* TO STAY HEALTHY WHEN I TRAVEL.
Two different posts for our Tuesday 🙂 .
Yesterday, three out of four kiddos didn’t have school (random Monday off…) which meant that I did that “mom thing” and scheduled 185 dentist/orthodontist/check up appointments for each of them and spent the entire day shuttling between one waiting room and another. Sigh.
Other than that, here’s a little look at life lately…
It’s starting to look like fall in my front yard! The trees are starting to get less green and more “we need to start transitioning”.
It makes my heart very happy. Not only is the front yard lookin’ fall…

…but the backyard is too! Andrew Shull gets 100% of the credit for putting out my pumpkins and mums. He knows the way to my heart.
Right now, this girl…

…doesn’t go to school on Fridays. This will probably not be the case next year, so I am SOAKING IT UP this year. Every extra minute I get with my youngest, I am trying to savor. I have three teenagers that I can barely nail down, so every single minute with this one is an extra blessing.
Just a reminder…

…that I love pulling my eye patches out of the fridge and wearing them in the car as I drive to the gym. It kills two birds with one stone 🙂 .
Instead of Friday Night Lights, it was Friday night CHAOS!

The power went out at Smith’s school on Friday afternoon, and they couldn’t get it back up in time for the game, so the visiting team offered to host. At the last minute, everyone moved up north to their stadium. I was really impressed with how quickly both schools got the operation moved. When you factor in things like ticketing, concessions, security, and busing, it was quite an undertaking. They made it seem pretty seamless though.

I was there for #75 🙂 .

Mary’s Mountain Cookies is a Saturday night must for the Shulls. If you are ever on our town square, make sure you stop by. They always have at least two monthly seasonal selections and right now, one of them is German Chocolate, and it’s DELICIOUS!

Saturday afternoon baking with my girls…and Charlie.

Pumpkins on my porch always makes me happy…

…especially when I’m headed off to walk my dogs 🙂 .
On Sunday afternoon, we suffered through the Cowboys’ game…

…I had one dog behind me…

…one dog next to me…

…one at my feet…

…and another in front of the TV. I wish I could have napped through that atrocity.
And…

…a beautiful sunrise yesterday after morning storms.
That’s a look at life lately.
Don’t forget, I am also sharing SHAY’S WAYS: HOW I *TRY* TO STAY HEALTHY WHEN I TRAVEL today too.
I hope you have the BEST day, friends! xx

Love these posts! Wondering what you do with those small eye mask pieces? Haha, do we just toss them or use them in some life changing way? 😂
Mix and Match Mama says
I actually use them! They’re random, right? They are the perfect size for Madeley’s face, so she puts them on. I will use two under each eye on me.

I love a life lately. Every day it seems more reds, yellows and oranges are on our trees. Michigan is stunning in fall. I love the crisp mornings. I had a lovely massage on Saturday, and we enjoyed a Saturday night at home making stir fry with tons of veggies. My kind of night. Walking on the trail is my soul care, and I love doing it daily, especially in fall. Happy Tuesday.
Carrie Martens says
It was also a surprise to us here in Chicago that the Bears didn’t lose 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
That should speak VOLUMES about the Cowboys.
Lori says
Will you please do a tutorial on the eye patches? They slide down when I put mine on!
Mix and Match Mama says
Mine slide sometimes too! For me, the key is to make sure my face hasn’t been recently moisturized or damp. My face needs to be good and dry to hep them adhere better.

That sunrise is stunning. My boys had Friday’s off when we lived in Oklahoma and it was super cool. I only have one left in school (freshman) but he’s hoping and praying Texas will go to 4 day school weeks. Finger crossed 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I have one kiddo in a four day week, and my honest opinion is that a five day week is better. I’m soaking it all up, but I do think she’d really prefer to have that extra day at school.
Paula Hobbs says
I can totally see that. Especially with her outgoing personality. I’m sure she’s bummed out, but it’s sweet she gets one on one time with you for this season. My boys were of the age during their 4 day years they could go fishing, play more baseball, etc. so it hit different for them. I bet the other 3 are a wee bit jealous of her having Friday’s at home.
Judy Hightower says
Friday night was crazy! My son is a coach for Anna and was one of the crew that had everything set up in Lovejoy, then had to disassemble, reload the trailer and get back to Anna to get set up again! Thank goodness both schools worked together! Gotta love Friday Night Lights in Texas!
Mix and Match Mama says
I was REALLY impressed with how flawless everyone made it seem. Truly, everyone at both schools did a remarkable job!
Susan Fitzpatrick says
Your pumpkins and mums look so pretty. I might attempt to buy mums again this year and keep them alive. I read that they should be soaked first so the roots can absorb water. Any tips on that?
Mix and Match Mama says
That might be true, but we don’t do that. We (and by “we”, I mean Andrew, ha!) seems to just put them in and water as normal.
Candi says
Could you please tell me where your kettle is from?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s Le Creuset. I bought it years ago at Williams Sonoma.
Amy Androff says
I got the eye patches and love them.

Love these posts, Shay!
I’m recuperating at home from gum graft surgery (my periodontist says it is being a product of braces in the 90s and also being a vigorous brusher too, oops! 😌). And catching up on book club and these posts!! Thanks for being a good distraction and always a good part of my mornings!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have had two gum grafts, and they are not fun. I hope you’re healing well! It’s not a fun time.
Sarah DeWald says
Love the fall pumpkins at your house! I need to get mine out this weekend!
Debbra says
Love the fall pics of your yard, pumpkins displays and decoration inside your home! So fall cozy!!
Karen Lindstrom says
Love the color of your watchband! Would you have a link for it? Thank you Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
I would but it’s not in stock. It’s an oldie but goodie from Amazon.
Erika Rouse says
Does the 4 day school week make the days extra long? I always hear on the news more school districts considering it but always wondered the logistics of that!
Mix and Match Mama says
Madeley goes to a private school, so no, her school day is not extra long. There are school districts in our area (coincidentally, the team that we played against on Friday, Anna, is one of them) who do have four day weeks and yes, their days are longer to compensate. In Texas, your district is required to attend school a certain amount of minutes per year (not days), so that’s how different districts create these different schedules. As another example, Smith and Ashby’s district have school days that are about 30 minutes longer than Kensington’s which is why they get more days off during the year (like yesterday!).
Jaime says
Will Madeley’s school have class on fridays next year? or is she thinking of switching schools again next year?
Mix and Match Mama says
She’ll be in middle school next year, so the more flexible schedule is for the elementary age. Middle school is more work.

You missed a blessing by not watching Charlie Kirk’s Memorial on Sunday. Or maybe you watched both. His life pointed straight to Jesus, our Savior. I pray that more people come to serve the Lord because of Charlie’s life.
Darcy says
Wow, the most powerful event for God that I’ve ever watched on television! The music, the speakers, the “I forgive him”…wow, wow, wow! I think we are seeing so evidently the contrast of good to evil in our country…powerful!!! Praying, praying, praying!!!
Bren says
Love a Day in the Life post! Your mums and pumpkins are lovely. Every year when I see yours I make a mental note to find some ceramic pumpkins like yours out front. On my to-do list for tomorrow!
Alana says
Just out of curiosity, did Smith change #s since the beginning of the season? You said you were there for #75 but his football sign says #55!? Nosy, I know.. but I noticed that & couldn’t help but wonder! Impressive to get the game switched over though; that is no easy feat!
Mix and Match Mama says
Smith’s number has changed a few times this season, so we haven’t changed out the yard sign from last year (when he was #55). They pass down these jerseys, so in one color, the #70 fits better and then in another color, the #75 does. When he’s an upperclassman, they’ll care more, but right now, we just change who we’re cheering for 😉 .
Sherrt says
I love all the pumpkins! But I lived in Plano and know how long it stays warm. Do you have problems with heat or, more importantly, animals (I’m talking to you squirrels and rabbits) eating the pumpkins??? I tried every diy last year and nothing stopped them. Ideas??? Love your blog and use so many of your recipes even though it’s just two of us now!
Mix and Match Mama says
We haven’t had any issues with animals eating our pumpkins, but yes, they do sometimes get warm and kind of melt (we toss and replace them when they do). The pumpkins that stay out of direct sunlight don’t seem to have this issue, but the ones that do get a lot of sun, do tend to get icky.
Faith Kapp says
You have had some interesting football games this year! I was off yesterday since our schools were closed and I made appointments for myself. I was exhausted. I just have three, but I remember how busy it was for all the appointments!
Mix and Match Mama says
I KNOW! We have yet to have a “normal” football weekend. We’ve either had to fly to the other side of the state, it’s been cancelled for lightning, we played on a random Thursday and then this craziness.
